Not everyone has this year’s handset. We build and test for the mid-range phones most customers actually carry, which is where most Android disappointment comes from.
Android is not one phone, it is thousands. An app that feels quick on a brand new handset can be unusable on the three-year-old one your customer has in their pocket, and that gap is where the bad reviews come from.
So we test across a spread of real phones, including older and slower ones, and on a poor connection. We also watch battery use, because an app that drains the battery gets deleted within a week.
Google has its own rules and deadlines for staying in the Play Store. We handle the submission and release it gradually, so if something is wrong it reaches a handful of people rather than everyone.
